In one line : vegetarian self-serve restaurant where you pay by the gram.
Review : It's the best known all vegetarian (and some vegan dishes) restaurant chain in Montreal. The main kitchen is somewhere in the suburbs and it distributes its food to nine locations in Montreal, Quebec city and Toronto, the food is then re-heated. This place can be expensive since you pay by the gram and you don't know how much it will cost until you get to the scale at the cashier, don't be surprised if it costs more tha $10.00 for an average plate. The choices are quite diverse, but like some dishes are rather bland (except for the desserts of course). I read on the vegetarian restaurant web site that the author of that page got sick twice at the Commensal, I never got sick (although I only went there once) nor do I know anyone who got sick there (actually just last week - in 1996 - there was an outbreak of food poisoning at their restaurants), so i was quite surprised when I read this (but not that much anymore). Since then, there haven't been any incident so I am sure that solved their little problem.<br> By the way, one of the Commensal restaurant is situated where the entrance of the Capitol movie theater (very impressive Queen style theater) once was. Another restaurant is located in the old wax museum on the corner of Cote-des-Neiges and Queen Mary road and a third in the old Grand Café on St-Denis street just south of Ontario.
