Selection of inexpensive restaurants

Here is a list of excellent restaurants but very affordable. All these restaurants serve meals for less than $ 10 (for a starter and main course before tax and tip). Some even offer a full meal including tax and tip for under $ 10. These restaurants are not listed in any particular order.
  • Maison V.I.P. in Chinatown, I mean less than $5 for their lunch special! You can't beat that... can you?
  • Le Jardin Du Curry on St-Laurent just north of St-Viateur, a great roti for around $6.00... There are also many other Caribbean restaurants and Haitian that are as affordable.
  • Mazurka (Polish) on Prince-Arthur, inexpensive daily special and very good polish food.
  • You should also try a Vietnamese restaurant, for example : Pho Thahn Long or Cristal No. 1 for their very inexpensive tonkanese soups (large bowl with lots of broth, rice vermicelli, paper thin beef usually, herbs, etc), around $7.25 for a large bowl, taxes included.
  • For south american and central american, there's Sabor Latino (more a small cafeteria than a restaurant) on St-Laurent just north of Marie-Anne or La Chilenita on Marie-Anne just west of St-Laurent for empanadas.
  • For indian, try Golden Curry (they have a cheap lunch special... pretty much like all the indian restaurants in Montreal but this restaurant is one of the better one), it's next door to the Kilo for desserts.
  • For lebanese fast-food, the best place is Basha on Ste-Catherine west (second floor) on the corner of Mansfield, it's also the best lebanese fast-food place in town.
  • For hamburgers, try La Paryse on Ontario street east on the corner of Sanguinet (just west of St-Denis) or L'Anecdote on Rachel.
  • For sandwiches, you have to go to the Cafe Santropol (ask for a table on the backyard terrasse). It's not as good as it use to be but it'll do the trick.
  • For a french bistro, you should go to Le grand comptoir in downtown.
  • For designer pizza, try Pizzedelic on Mont-Royal east or St-Denis (there are various other locations), for traditional pizza, there's Pendeli's and Pizzelli or Pizzaiolle for wood overn pizza and calzones.
  • For really inexpensive international "fast-food", you have to go what's left of the Faubourg Ste-Catherine (3rd floor) on Ste-Catherine corner of St-Mathieu street or at Centre Eaton at the basement level (not as varied as it use to be). Although none of these places are very interesting anymore but they are still cheap. You can check out the list of food courts.
