Montreal on the cheap

This section could be called "Montreal for under $75 a day" (hotel and three meals included). Even though the section is short, it is none the less complete since it links to other special sections of the guide. The first thing you need to know is where to get free information before you come here and once you are here.

Then, you need to find a place to stay. The cheapest places are the university dorms and youth hostels. If you don't like those places, the b&b are are usually inexpensive, although a little more expensive then the dorm rooms. You can get a full list of hotels rooms (or dorms or b&b) for under $75 a night.

For restaurants, you can get a great meal for under $10, if you know where to look. The best thing is to eat a big lunch (even the more expensive restaurants have an inexpensive lunch special) and eat a smaller dinner at one of the restaurants listed. Here's a list of recommended restaurants for under $10 (there's also a full list of restaurants under $10).

Finally, there are the free activities and museums. Summertime is usually ideal for free activities since most festivals have free outdoor events. The Montreal International Jazz Festival is the best example with hundreds or free outdoor shows (around the Place-des-Arts). The Montreal International Film Festival and other film festivals have free outdoor film screenings. As, for museums, here's a list of free museums and exhibitions (or rebates on museums).

That's it, so enjoy your visit and keep that money in your wallet.
