The best restaurants in Montreal

Here's a list of the best restaurants in Montreal. This is, of course, highly subjective, I am sure some people will disagree with the choices. The different categories are listed in alphabetical order, the types of dishes or country of origin are not separated (you will find the same suggestions in the restaurants by country section and restaurant by type section).
  • Best chicken BBQ: what choice! There are several restaurants which serve excellent BBQ chicken. Besides the majority of Portuguese restaurants that make an art of it, there is: Les deux fours at 2379 Belanger street (excellent chicken and fries with three succulent sauces), Chalet Bar B-Q at 5456 Sherbrooke street west of Decarie (they've there for a long time and no, it's not a Swiss Chalet) and Poulet Boucanier/Au Tarot on Rosemont close to Christophe-Colomb (for pick-up and delivery only).
  • The best breakfast or brunch: Beautys, Mount Stephen Club, Eggspectations.
  • Best Chinese restaurant (expensive): Piment Rouge, Chez Chine, Chrysanteme, etc.
  • Chinese restaurants (affordable): Maison VIP (by far the least expensive), Lotte Furama
  • Best Creole (Haitien): Kalalu on St-Denis, Kiano on City Councillor
  • The best food court: the Faubourg Ste-Catherine (although less interesting than before Concordia moved in), Centre Eaton
  • Best fries: Le Grand Comptoir, Frites Alors! .
  • Best French restaurant (affordable): Chez Leveque.
  • Best French restaurant (bistro): Le Grand Comptoir
  • Best French restaurant (expensive): Toque (although it is more fusion), Nuances (one of the restaurant of the Casino), Les Chenets, Les Halles, etc.

  • Best the roastbeef: Taverne Magnan.
  • Best smoked meat (these places make their own smoked meat): Schwartz, The Main

  • Best South American: Villa Wellington on Wellington in Verdun, Chilenita, etc
  • Best souvlaki: Arahova on Fairmount
