Montreal Biodome
Description | Neighbourhood : Hochelaga-Maisonneuve Type : Sciences
This "museum" (it's more like a mix of a science center and an ecological zoo) shows four different working ecosystems, full of insects, plants, birds, reptiles and other small animals. Those four ecosystems are : the tropical forest, the laurentian forest (forests around Montreal), the St-Laurent river and the polar worlds, there's also a bat cave and other smaller exhibitions. All the ecosystems are supposed to be balanced and self-contained, meaning that everything in the systems is reused by those systems. The ecosystems also follow the different seasons.
I strongly recommend the NFB documentary "L'Arche de verre" (The Glass Ark) which explains in detail how the Biodome was constructed and how it works. The Biodome is located near the base of the olympic stadium's tower, in what use to be old olympic cycling racing track (the vélodrome).
