Critique : The sign in front of the Montreal Pool Room says "the best hot dog in town". Well a hot dog is a hot dog after all, so what makes this place better? The question doesn't really need to be asked. The Montreal Pool Room is an institution (since 1909 if I remember correctly), and it is known to have great hot dogs. Why? They use the same sausages as other places... maybe they know a better way to cook them. Once you enter, you'll notice the long (long) counters where people stand to eat and at the back, there are large pool-table like tables. The age of the place is evident by the worn out terrazzo floor in front of the counter where the order are taken. The usual order is a couple of steamés (2 in my case), some fries and a drink for about $4.50 with taxes. The fries are home made and have a surprising very light yellow color and not greasy at all. What about the hot-dogs you ask? Yes, they are better than other places for some reason. And as an added bonus, when you eat at the Montreal Pool Room, you don't come out after 15 minutes smelling like grease.
By the way, if you are wondering, a steamé (pronounced steamay) is a steamed hot-dog and there aren't any pool tables in the place anymore.
