Safety

Montreal is a relatively safe city (compared to major US cities and even compared to Canadian cities). For example, the murder rate for the island of Montreal is just below 3 per 100 000 persons (it's 21 per 100 000 persons in major US cities). But, as always, use your common sense.

  • Neighborhood you shouldn't go during the day (unsafe) : none.

  • Neighborhood you shouldn't go at night (unsafe) : most big parks (Lafontaine, Mont-Royal) alone late at night (they are closed anyway from midnight to 6:00am). That's about it, stick to well lighted streets and you won't have any trouble.
